Electronic Poker is a favored game that is able to be played in casinos throughout the world, or in your house on your computer, using a web connection. The game rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to get the best mixture of cards possible in order to come away with cash. In this respect it is much the same as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. Of course, methods employed during a physical game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be "given out" on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and gamblers should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler would like to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the gambler has decided on which cards she would like to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be handed out if desired. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payment schedule.

Typically, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to two pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from game to game, so that experienced players are able to choose the most profitable machine every instance.

Once the initial round has completed, the player can either decide to remain on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that has been won. Further, some versions of the game give the player a chance to double their profits, in which case another round is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
