Video Poker is a popular game that can be enjoyed in casinos across the world, or alternatively at home on your personal computer, through an Internet account. The game rules are absolutely simple and involve the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards as you can in order to win cash. In this respect it is very similar as a normal game of poker, apart from the line of contact with competing players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.

The game of Video Poker begins when the gambler inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A hand of five cards will be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.

The Video Poker machine also has hold buttons, and enthusiasts should now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they light up. The player can choose to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.

After the enthusiast has chosen which cards he wishes to retain, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are given out if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Video Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.

Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It is obvious that the payment schedule can range from machine to machine, so that experienced bettors are able to pick the most money-making ones each instance.

Once the first round has finished, the player can either choose to continue on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Additionally, a few versions of the game give the enthusiast a chance to double their wins, in which case a further hand is played. There are also variations among specific machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
